Seiko Astron – World’s First GPS Solar Watch

Seiko manufactures some of the nicest and most affordable watches to come out of Japan. The Japanese have been at the top of their game in practically every industry imaginable and the watches are no exception. The new Seiko Astron is the world’s first GPS solar watch so you never have to worry about manually adjusting the time or hunting for time zone servers.

The Seiko Astron features a very low-energy-consumption GPS receiver which was developed in house. With this development, the watch can receive GPS signals and identify time zone, time and date data using the global network of GPS satellites. The watch can receive the time signal automatically and, on demand, connect to four or more satellites, which pinpoints the position and identifies the time zone and exact time. The watch can recognize all 39 times on the earth.

Hamilton Intramatic watch in yellow PVD case with silver dial

Hamilton Intra-Matic

The new for 2012 Hamilton Intra-Matic watch takes its design inspiration from watches from the 1960’s however, with a size that’s a lot bigger than the ones found “back in the day” and in tune with the times.

The Hamilton Intra-Matic watch is available in 38 mm and 42 mm cases and features a retro look with a very clean dial that’s covered with a domed sapphire crystal.  The dial features long, lightly curved minute and hour hands and 12 very thin hour indices.  The date window is placed at the 6 o’clock position opposite a retro Hamilton logo.  The Intra-Matic reminds me a bit of the Orient 60th Anniversary watch, a watch I’m a big fan, which is also a retro-inspired design.

Movado Series 800 dive watch blue 3-hand

Movado Series 800 Dive Watches

I don’t usually write about quartz watches but when I do, they’re about Movado watches (I can’t believe I just wrote that).  Movado watches have a special place in my heart, my first “real” watch was a Movado Museum piece that I bought when I was in college; everyone thought I was some rich kid.  I still own that watch and occasionally wear it.  Today I bring you the Movado Series 800 Dive watches.

The Movado Series 800 watches have been around for a while now with a few different varieties, they seem to be quite popular and pretty reasonably priced.  I personally prefer the look of their museum watches but I guess Movado can’t sell as many watches when they all have the same black dial and two hands.
