The Horological Machine No. 3 Frog is another really cool and unusual watch, manufactured by Maximilian Busser & Friends (MB & F).  Unlike the previous articles I’ve written on cool & unusual watches, this one is an actual production mode.  Only 32 of these watches will be manufactured, 12 of them will black titanium and the remaining will be regular titanium.

The watch is designed to look like a frog, hence the name.  The two domed ball-like objects on the watch face tell time, the one on the left houses the hour indicator and the one on the right houses the minute indicator, these domes represent the eyes of the frog.  Both of these “balls” are made out of aluminum, for weight savings, which results in

The Indy 500 is just around the corner, it’s also called “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” by some.  I don’t know about that, it’s just another “race” where the guys (and a few girls) go left and then straight and left and so on.  Sure I’ll watch a bit of it but I wouldn’t accuse it of being the “greatest”, I’ll go as far as calling it a good race, only because it’s the race’s 100^th anniversary.

To celebrate that anniversary, TAG Heuer has just released a special edition chronograph watch, called the TAG Heuer Indy 500 Centennial Chronograph Limited Edition, which is based on the Swiss watchmaker’s Formula 1 watch and only 1,000 pieces will be produced.

2012 marks the 60^th anniversary of Japanese manga series Astro Boy. To celebrate the occasion, Casio has released the Astro Boy 60^th Anniversary G-Shock watch.  The G-Shock DW-5600 watch features a red silhouette of Astro Boy on the backlight; Astro Boy’s picture is also printed on the strap and engraved on the back.

The Astro Boy 60^th Anniversary G-Shock watch comes in a red box with Astro Boy logo and some images from the comic books; the watch is limited to 1,000 pieces and will be available for pre-order on November 3^rd, to be shipped later in the month.  The limited edition G-Shock is priced at ¥15,750 (or about $200 at today’s exchange rate).

Muhammad Ali celebrated his 70^th birthday in January and to commemorate the occasion, IWC Schaffhausen auctioned a special edition watch at the annual Celebrity Fight Night in Phoenix, Arizona.  The one-off timepiece is called IWC Muhammad Ali Big Pilot’s watch.

This one of a kind watch comes in a white gold case and features a black dial with red Super-Luminova applied to the three hands and hour markers.  The case-back features special engravings and Muhammad Ali’s signature.  The IWC Muhammad Ali Big Pilot’s watch comes with a black alligator strap with red lining and is powered by IWC caliber 51111 automatic movement and has a 7-day power reserve.  The watch comes in a package with a book, “GOAT – Greatest Of All Time”, which features over 3,000 pictures and illustrations of the champ by more than 150 artists and photographers.

Porsche Design studio was founded by Ferdinand Porsche 40 years ago, over the last four decades the luxury brand has produced some very striking products such as watches, clothes, eyewear, and even kitchen knives.

The first product under the Porsche Design brand was the black Chronograph I wristwatch, which was followed by the introduction of their sunglasses line.  To celebrate the brand’s 40^th anniversary, Porsche Design has created a limited edition set called the “40Y of Iconic Products” which includes a watch and a pair of sweet looking aviator sunglasses.

Romain Jerome, the watchmaker famous for taking moon dust, volcanic ash from Iceland, and metal from the Titanic and putting it into their DNA line of watches (seen here).  The watchmaker has now created a new watch in the same line but with a bit less exotic material.  Their latest creation is the DeLorean DNA watch and yes the watches contain metal from the famous DeLorean DMC-12 sports car.

I don’t think I need to give you a history lesson on the DeLorean DMC-12 sport car, if you haven’t been living under a rock then you should know what car I’m talking about.  If you don’t know about the car, I suggest you download one of the Back to the Future movies.
