Only Watch 2011: Celsius X VI II Watch Phone

Only-Watch-2011-CelsiusUnlike other watches that will be auctioned at the 2011 Only Watch charity event, the Celsius X VI II can’t be worn on the wrist, instead, it’ll feel right at home in your pocket but it isn’t a traditional pocket watch.  The timepiece combines what used to be a modern gadget, a hundred years ago, with one of the most popular gadgets of the current time, a cell phone.

The Celsius X VI II watch phone was released earlier in the year (priced at approximately $300,000) but the one that will be presented at the charity event is a one-off with a unique date feature.  The date window showcases the date in the middle of the phone and at first glance, the date seems to come out of nowhere thanks to some visual trickery; the glass used to display magnifies the top part of the date wheel giving the illusion that there is no wheel.

Hamilton Khaki Navy Pioneer 1

Limited Edition Hamilton Khaki Navy Pioneer

2012 marks the 120th anniversary of watch production for the American watch maker Hamilton, the company was founded way back in 1892.  To mark this special occasion, the watch manufacturer will release a limited edition Hamilton Khaki Navy Pioneer watch which takes its design inspirations from the 1940’s marine chronometer watches that made Hamilton famous.

The Hamilton Khaki Navy Pioneer watch comes in a rather large 46.5 mm stainless steel case and it comes with a Hevea wood presentation box that double as a desktop clock, which is a pretty cool feature and could be the reason they made the watch a bit bigger.  The watch has a simple dial with Arabic numeral hour and minute markers and comes with two large blue hands.  The seconds are placed in a sub-dial between the 5 and 7 o’clock position with a small blue hand.  The watch face is covered in AR coated sapphire crystal and is attached to a light brown leather strap with stitching.

Maharishi Casio Ghock GA 110

Maharishi x Casio G-Shock GA-110 White

The white G-Shock madness continues this week with the collaboration between London based Maharishi and Casio G-Shock GA-110 watch.  The G-Shock gets a unique black on white treatment that makes it look like a zebra.

The Maharishi G-Shock may look like a zebra but that’s not what inspired the design.  The white and black paint scheme is inspired by World War I naval ships that were painted white with black geometric shapes to confuse enemy torpedo operators on the direction the ships were traveling.

Vacheron Constantin Overseas Perpetual Calendar Watch

Surprisingly, this is the first time I’m writing about Vacheron Constantin watches; VC is the world’s oldest watch manufacturer that has been in continuous operation, since 1755.  They released two watches today but I’ll write about just one today, the watch is called Vacheron Constantin Overseas Perpetual Calendar Chronograph, yes that’s a mouthful.

The Perpetual Calendar Chronograph rose gold, Ref. 49020/000R-9753, comes in a 18k rose gold case with a brushed and polished finish and measures 42 mm.  The crown and two pushers are very elegant, as is the light grey opaline dial which is covered with sapphire crystal.  The hour markers and the hour and minute hands are covered in 18k rose gold.  The dial features 4 sub-dials that house the perpetual calendar: date, day, 48-month counter with leap year, and moon phase.  The three top sub-dials also double as the chronograph counters.  The watch comes with a hand-stitched brown alligator and a brown rubber strap.

Object of Time One-77 Watch Safe

Object of Time One-77 by Buben & Zorweg and Aston Martin

For a while there, I started a mini collection of automatic watches. And by mini collection, I’m talking like only five watches and all are very affordable. I never really felt the need to buy a watch winder and the idea of a watch safe didn’t really cross my mind either. I would sometimes put on two watches when I went for a jog in order to “charge” them but that was only on several occasions and my enthusiasm for automatic watches soon vanished.

We’ve written about several watch winders on Unfinished Man and the Object of Time One-77 by Buben & Zorweg is another note worthy product. The “Object of Time One-77” acts as a watch winder and a safe and is limited to 77 pieces. Buben & Zorweg teamed up with Aston Martin and Les Ambassadeurs to create the limited edition masterpiece.

Maurice Laxroix Masterpiece Watches

Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Tradition Phases de Lune Watches

Here’s another beautiful watch from Maurice Lacroix, called the Masterpiece Tradition Phase de Lune.  The watch(es) come in a variety of dial color combinations and bracelet/strap options.  These watches are definitely aimed at the traditionalists, with minimalist design and relatively small cases.
