Talbotics – Illuminating Scrapyard Robot Sculptures

I think it’s safe to say that just about everyone has a fascination with robots. They range from the incredibly creepy – like the Hugvie robot from Japan – to the flat out awesome, like this giant badass robot we wrote about way back when.

Talbotics fits into the latter category, or though the robots Tal creates aren’t functional in the “walking, talking” sense of the word, they do make really awesome sculptures and night lights. What you’re about to see are

Flaming Matchstick Art – Stanislav Aristov Photography

There’s an oft repeated saying that dictates “more is less!”. I’ve heard it so many times as to render it almost meaningless, but in a sense, it’s actually true. When we make a conscious decision to limit ourselves, even just a little bit… limit ourselves to a particular direction, or style, or medium, then a few interesting things happen. The paradox of choice becomes less of an issue, because we’ve removed some of those choices, and often times simplicity then reigns supreme. No where is that

City of Shadows – Haunting Images by Alexey Titarenko

Everything old is new again- though these striking images by Alexey Titarenko appear to be age worn relics, they were actually shot in the early 90’s. I’ve always been drawn to dingy, forlorn aesthetics; strangely enough, I really enjoy the work that it takes to create a depressing photograph without relying on cliched, weepy subject matter. The atmosphere that Titarenko captures in his City of Shadows is one of fleeting ghosts, twisted souls, and a bizarre caricature of a bustling metropolis. Maybe I have a one track mind, but I can only imagine storming through people-mist covered streets, chased by terrifying screams and shuffling zombie creatures that fade in and out of sight. Best video game level design ever.
