Unfortunately, none of the amazing photos I have to share with you today are from a disaster movie… these incredible and horrible scenes were captured in the real world on January 15, 2013. A five alarm blaze ripped through a warehouse late at night, gutting the entire building while scorching brick and concrete and shattering glass panes. While we never like to see destruction of property on this scale outside of when our favorite action hero is causing it safely on a sound stage somewhere, a unique situation occurred with the recent cold snap and ice in Chicago. What you’re seeing is the water used to put out the fire freezing almost instantaneously, creating a haunting landscape of abandoned trucks, black char, and crystalline white ice.

Thrift Store Monster Paintings – Chris McMahon and Thyrza Segal
Though I most certainly appreciate thrift stores for providing a great service to re-sell “old” consumer goods, I also often find them incredibly creepy. If you’ve …
Beautifully Macabre Rugs – Home Design that Even Dexter Would Love
When I moved to Montreal a year ago, I noticed a peculiar thing: no one has carpets. I’m not kidding… it’s just not done here. The …
Cool Optical Illusions

I’ve done my time in the shipping department in a warehouse and know a thing or two about corrugated boxes and tapes. The job of a shipper/receiver is extremely boring and the X-Tape is just the thing to cheer them up and get their attention. The tape, made to look like it has an actual hinge, was designed by Jeongmin Lee and Hyoungmin Park.
Stellar by Ignacio Torres – Stunning 3D Animated Gifs
Every so often I’ll see a bit of seemingly pretentious photography that I actually like, and Stellar, by Ignacio Torres, definitely fits the bill. In fact, one might say that this collection is… out of this world. In this set of 3d animated gifs, Ignacio combines the wonders of the universe with a bunch of people who are seemingly being blown away by invisible shooters. Honestly, I don’t even know, but the effect is incredibly neat.
I’ve seen quite a few animated gifs over the last year, but what really strikes me about these shots is the lighting. Ignacio picked a perfect time of day to take the photos, and the the setting sun really lends itself well to the
Os Gémeos + Blu – Street Art at Lisbon House
Walking around the city here, I see graffiti all the time. I used to view graffiti as the works of talentless youngsters trying to make a mess, and little more. Over the years, though, I’ve seen a few exceptionally interesting pieces, like this house in Lisbon, Portugal. Its made me realize that there’s a big difference between the mere act of spray painting something, and actual street art. Created by street artists Os Gémeos and Blu, this massive collaboration moves past the mere act of tagging, and actually carries a message.
As you’ll see in the photos below, the massive mural covers the entirety of a building in Lisbon. If you happen to live in the area, you can go and enjoy this in person by stepping just outside of the
Childhood Nightmares – Cinemagraphs by Marcel Meyer
I discovered cinemagraphs a few months ago, and since then I’ve continued to be fascinated by them. If you haven’t heard the term before, you’re not alone. They’re essentially a static image, much like you would take with your cell phone or camera, but with one or more elements in motion. The result is a subtle effect that’s extremely interesting, and often times creepy as well.
In this dark and dreary collection of cinemagraphs, German artist Marcel Meyer portrays a serious of childhood nightmares. All of the shots feature a child wearing pajamas in various lonely locations, such as
