WW2 soldier watching

Sergey Larenkov – World War 2 Time Machine

It’s amazing just how recently the events of the second World War transpired. On September 1st, 1939, the Nazi war machine invaded Poland and the world was forever changed. Though it wasn’t all that long ago, most of the photographs we see of WW2 are in black and white. Blogger Sergey Larenkov decided to take these black and white photos and do something a little bit different with them. Using a bit of simple photo editing, he turned these photos into digital time machines.

Sergey’s collection of photos are a meld of old and new. He’s collected numerous photos from major historic battles of WW2, such as the defense of Moscow, and overlayed these locations with

Lasting Friendship – Five Year Photo Project

All of us have our little circle of friends who we to go for advice, to hang out with, for support, and basically to feel like we belong somewhere.  It’s interesting to see all the friendships from high school and how people grow apart despite the fact that they live in the same city or even blocks from each other. That’s fairly common I suppose, people grow apart, make new friendships, and life goes on.

If anybody knows about lasting friendships, it has to be the five guys of Copco Lake. ‘The Five Year Photo’ project started back in July 1982. A year after high school, buddies John Wardlaw, Mark Rumer, Dallas Burney, John Molony, and John Dickson took a self-timer photo that would unite them for decades to come. With a snap of a picture, a pact was made to come back to that very spot every five years to pose for the camera.

Natural Phenomena – Time-lapse by Reid Gower

The world is an incredible place, and I think that everyone should take the opportunity to see it, if they have the means to do so. But travel can be extremely expensive, and sometimes what we really want is a quick dose of beauty, both from at home, and around the world. Time-lapse videos like Natural Phenomena are a perfect way to get that.

Denim Art – The Works of Ian “Denimu” Berry

For those of you that are long time readers here at Unfinished Man, you may have picked up on my obsession with jeans. I collect a wide range of selvedge denim jeans from around the world, and I’ve gone so far as to visit the factory of one of my favorite brands, Naked & Famous. So when I woke up this morning and realized that an artist by the name of Ian Berry (aka Denimu) was slicing up jeans and using them to create incredibly intricate landscapes and portraits, well… I was both excited and horrified.

You see, blurry eyed and hungry, I thought that he was slicing up brand new jeans to create his works of denim mastery. Not so, and all the better for it… those poor jeans would not have had a chance! No, instead he uses

Boris Hoppek – NSFW Street Art or Public Porn?

German street artist Boris Hoppek does some pretty cool art pieces and installations; he paints with a whimsical, fun style.  He also does some really, really weird installations. If you go looking, you’ll find pictures of waves of smiling faces hugging and laughing, or a checkerboard tiled walkway with a piece of poop on every alternating square…lots and lots of poop. He also seems to have a love for a character of his that is loosely based on “black face,” so I think you can understand that when I say that the installation after the jump is NSFW, it’s honestly really not safe for work. His minimal comic art style is often either inspiring or sexual in nature (he’s a master of disparity), but that’s nothing all that new and surprising in the world of street art installations. Hoppek took the shape of the structure he was working on, matched it with the form and grace of female anatomy and a very large photo realistic print, with some surprising results for the passerby. (We promise there’s no poop after the jump.)
