Jaguar XE Sport Sedan

After months of teaser images and videos, we finally get to see the all-new 2016 Jaguar XE sports sedan; a car that will be competing with the likes of the BMW 3-Series, Lexus IS, Infiniti Q50, Mercedes C-Class etc.

Unlike other new vehicles from the Jaguar-Land Rover group, the XE is a very “meh” inducing design, at least judging it based on the pictures. If you think the design already looks dates, that’s because it looks very much like the Jaguar XF, which isn’t a bad looking car, but has been around for quite a few years now.

The interior on the new Jaguar XE is supposed to be inspired by the F-Type, the layout does resemble that of the F-Type, but it doesn’t feel as sporty. There’s also an arch-type step up, spanning the dashboard closest to the windshield, like the one found on the XJ sedan. The overall layout looks clean, but I’ll have to wait to see it in person to pass final judgement. The XE is also equipped with the pop-up circular gear “lever”, also found on the XJ and Range Rover; I think this “lever” has been played out already and doesn’t really suit the XE, instead, the gear lever from the F-Type would be more appropriate here, since this is a sports sedan.

The Jaguar XE S is powered by the same supercharged 3.0 liter V6 engine found on the base F-Type roadster, producing 340 horsepower. Power is sent to the rear wheels via an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission, helping the car reach 60 mph in 4.9 seconds. Will there be more powerful versions of the XE? We think so, probably the XE R and XE RS, powered by the 5.0 liter supercharged V8 engine, producing over 500 horsepower. Now those cars will be a hoot to drive!

The Jaguar XE is mainly constructed out or aluminum, with 75% of the parts being made from the lightweight material. The V6 model weighs 3,252 pounds (1,475 kg).

The Jaguar XE will be available in the United Kingdom in early 2015 as a 2016 model, while in Canada and the United States, it will be available in 2016 as a 2017 model. As for pricing, we expect it to be in the same range as the 3-Series, C-Class etc. (I’m guessing starting at around $35,000 – $40,000).
