The Last of Us – E3 2012 Presentation

This is an exciting year at E3, with tons of new properties, and even more sequels that have been done to death. The video and screenshots below are from a brand new presentation of Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us, and amazing looking new IP from the company featuring Joel and Ellie, survivors of a decayed world… a world gone mad.

You’ve probably seen some of the other footage we’ve posted, but this is the first time we’ve been shown actual gameplay, and not just cinematics. In this E3 presentation, Joel and Ellie are trying to escape the city via a large bridge. As you’ve undoubtedly guessed, the world is never that simple, and the pair are forced to make some tough decisions, including just how badly they want to beat the crap out of the other scavengers.

Let me start off by expressing my incredible sadness that The Last of Us is a PS3 exclusive. I’ve never been much of a Playstation kind of guy, and have absolutely no intention of getting one. What a shame that the powers that be decided not to release this on a real system! At least I can appreciate this magnificent looking game from afar.

Now, what really surprised me about the footage was just how gruesomely the player was able to react to the other scavengers. He didn’t so much as ask them what the time was before beating the ever living pulp out of each and every one of them, with fists, pistol, and of course shotgun. He could have at least said hello, or found out if they were male nuns, or charity workers. Joel really wasn’t very nice, if you ask me.

The Last of Us release date is sometime late this year, or early 2013. And yes, it’s exclusively for PS3. 🙁
