The Last of Us – Bill’s Safe House Trailer

Those of you that pay close attention to my game related posts have probably noticed something over the years. When I mentioned a release date, I almost put the Playstation 3 last. Why? Because I have something against it, for a reason I can’t quite describe. That’s why I find these The Last of Us videos so difficult to watch. A part of me dislikes the PS3 so very much, and yet… look at this game; it looks amazing!

This is a bit of footage that Naughty Dog released at Comic Con, and it shows us an interaction between Joel, an incredibly bratty Ellie, and a fellow named Bill.

I dislike when games are overly “movie like”, in the sense of taking actual play time away from the player, but if this game has fun and engrossing gameplay, while also sporting some seriously awesome in-game cinematics, then sign me up. I’ve mentioned this before, but between this and their previous trailer, we’re really starting to see hints at a great story here, and that’s always a good thing.

What I really can’t get over is just how great this game looks. Naughty Dog did an excellent job making the Uncharted games look good, and this looks even better. The characters look incredibly life like, and for a game that seems to focus heavily on the interaction between Joel, Ellie, and the rest of the world, well… that’s pretty damn important. It’s becoming quite obvious that the other elements of the game (such as the world itself) look fantastic too. Given that Bill appears to be a mechanic, I wonder if we’ll get to see bigger tracts of the world while speeding around in a vehicle of some kind. After all, that is what Joel is trying to get off Bill.

Now, there’s currently no known release date for The Last of Us, but my money is on late 2012, early 2013. I’ll keep you posted as details become available.
