Svenn Atlas Wood Watch Review

In a world filled with watches made out exotic materials like carbon fiber, platinum, titanium, uranium (ok, not really uranium) … exists a watch that’s made out of wood… wood? Yes, the Svenn watch collection features cases and bracelets made out of wood. Who doesn’t like to handle a bit of wood once in a while?

I remember around 5 to 10 years ago, wood watches were quite the trend, I hadn’t seen any new wood watches until I heard from a company called Svenn Wood Watch. The company was founded in 2017 by four friends. The watches are completely made out of wood, except for the movement, glass, and a few other pieces, of course. Using wood is an eco-friendly process, because the wood on these watches can be recycled and making new watches from wood is sustainable because wood is a renewable resource.

Svenn Atlas Dark Brown Sandalwood Watch Review

We received a Dark Brown Sandalwood watch from the Atlas series. The watch comes in a wooden box with an engraving on the outside, more on that later. The watch also comes with a bead bracelet for extra style points.

The Svenn Atlas Dark Brown Sandalwood watch is made out of, you guessed it, sandalwood. A type of wood that’s highly resistant to abrasions, which should help with the watch looking new for a long time. The wood is tempered, which reduces the moisture absorption of the wood. The Atlas watch comes in a 45 mm case; however, it doesn’t look that big, which is good thing for my smaller wrist. Normally, I like to keep my cases below the 42 mm diameter mark. The case is 9 mm thick and comes with an 18 mm bracelet and only weighs 52 grams.

The Svenn Atlas watch has clean dial with dark wood background. The hour markers are represented by batons, with the 12 and 6 o’clock represented by large Roman numerals. The watch comes with the standard 3-hands; hour, minute, and second hand. The hands and indices are finished in rose-gold along with a thin metal strip on the inside of the dial. The watch comes with a sapphire crystal and is splash-proof (3 ATM), it’s recommended you do not submerge this watch under water. The Svenn Atlas is powered by a Swiss Ronda Caliber 763 quartz movement.

I mentioned the engraved box, the same engraving is found on the caseback of the watch. This is a special element of Svenn watches, you can have the back and box engraved with whatever you like, in your own handwriting. Unfortunately for me, my hand writing is pretty ugly and doesn’t look as good as I had hoped it would on the watch.

That’s supposed to say “What one man can do another can do”

I really like the light weight of the watch, it would feel good in the summer, when wearing a metal watch gets a little annoying with the sweat buildup on the wrist. The wood material also makes it feel “airier”, it almost feels like you’re not wearing a watch at all. And the wood watch doesn’t really pull on wrist hair like my metal watches do, the wood bracelet almost feels like wearing a leather strap.

The Svenn Atlas does have a unique look to it and I like the details in the wooden bracelets. I wonder if the watch will change color as it ages, it would be cool if it changes color as it ages. Using wood is a different take on the classic watch, the Svenn watches are a good gift idea for someone looking for a sporty watch or someone that’s looking for something a little different.

The Svenn Atlas watch is priced at $139 USD but the website currently shows it at $99. For ordering and more info, please visit their website.
