Interior Design Trends for 2018

If you’re looking for the perfect way to freshen up your home or apartment, look no further. These 2018 home design trends are fresh and interesting, from pistachio ice cream-colored walls to geometric bathroom tiles. Check out each one of these hot new trends to enliven your home and office.

The Embellished Look

If you’re looking for a nice clean edge, then 2018’s interior design trends don’t agree. This year, little embellishes are the rage on everything: rugs, bags, pillows, and more. You can expect tufts, feathers, tassels, and macrame to pop up on all your 2018 home decor purchases. If you want to get in on the trend yourself, you can learn how to make macrame plant hangers and hang your greenery in style.

Gelato Colors

If you’re ready to be done with millennial pink, then you might be excited about this year’s color trend: ice cream and gelato colors. Think about your favorite ice cream colors for a minute: mint green? chocolate brown? cherry pink? Feel free to mix blue moon with pistachio in your living room, since a bold mix and match of your favorite flavors is encouraged on doors, walls, and molding. You can even get your chairs, accessories, linens, and more to accent or match your colors of choice.

Geometrics

While some geometric patterns were in last year as well, they were mostly limited to rugs, coffee mugs, and cushions. In 2018, geometric shapes are in style for art and walls, so get your faux grasscloth wallpaper in a gorgeous geometric pattern. Wallpaper is especially in right now, so go with something gray and gold for your bathroom, pink and blue for your bedroom, or green and black for your back patio.

Plants

Have you heard that plants are good for your health? Probably. But have you heard they’re also big in the interior design world? You’re in luck if you’ve got a green thumb, because endless indoor foliage is a fad this year in interior design. You can’t have too many plants, whether they’re spilling off your bookcases, hanging from the ceiling, or filling your corners. You can go small with cute wall displays of succulents or go huge with a bird of paradise. You might want to take a quick course in indoor plant care, since keeping your greenery alive is a must.

Gold

The warm, soft tones of gold are in for 2018, on furniture, lamps, frames, and more. Gold is a great accent color, especially when paired with another of 2018’s color trends: indigo blue. You can apply this trend to your faucets, door knobs, hanging lamps, and more. This trend is great news for antiquers, since gold frames, statues, and furniture have been “out” for awhile, and they’re available for cheap in most antique stores. Get your thrift items before they’re gone, or instead, try spray painting an item you love with gold metallic paint. Unless you’re going for ice cream colors, stick to darker walls to more effectively accent your gold pieces.
