Garrett the Master Thief – Slowly Emerging from the Shadows

We’ve been covering Thief 4 for over a year now… at least, what little scraps we’ve gotten.

It’s been a long, long time since we’ve gotten a proper Thief game (Thief 3 is about as real as Mad Max 3: Beyond the Thunder Dome), and if you’re as big a fan of the series as I am, well… I bet you’re itching for some new content. So, Thief 4 has since been changed to just Thief, and for once I’ve actually got something a bit more comprehensive to show you.

Thief E3 2013 Trailer

It’s not very long, and there’s virtually no in-game content, but you know what? I’m kind of digging the refreshed aesthetic. Give it a watch and we’ll chat after that.

So… I’m excited that Eidos is seemingly making progress on the game. We’ve all heard that the development has been rocky at best, and that’s a real shame. I hope they’re able to overcome that and produce a killer Thief game despite their troubles. The video we just watched shows every indication that they have the tone and feel nailed down, and now the question is simply whether they’ve managed to translate that into the actual game world. After all, a cinematic trailer like this, and the actual game, are often very different things.

You may also have noticed that the original voice actor, Stephen Russell, is not voicing Garrett. This isn’t exactly news, but given the massive petitions, I’m slightly surprised that they’ve decided to run with it. The same thing happened with Hitman: Absolution, and the studio smartened up and brought back the very talented David Bateson. Will they change their minds here? I doubt it, but a man can hope.

Thief Release Date

I’m wondering about this myself, actually. The next generation of consoles is just around the corner, so perhaps we’ll get a proper release date at this years E3. In the mean time, go pre-order a copy of the game, because as you know, it’s totally worth it for the sweet pre-order bonuses! Yeah, bra.
