To celebrate 60 years of watchmaking, Orient has released the SDT0000 series of watches.  The SDT0000 watches are designed based on some of the oldest Orient watches and pay homage to the company with “Orient 60th Anniversary Limited Edition” engraved on the back of the watches.

Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 44 London Chronograph

Many sports aficionados know Omega is the official timekeeper of the Olympic Games and has been for the past 24 events (summer and winter).  To commemorate the 25th time as the official timekeepers, Omega has released a special watch for the 2012 London Olympic Games called the Seamaster Aqua Terra 44 London Chronograph.

I was expecting something more “grand” or “Olympic-sized” than what looks to be just another Aqua Terra.  The watch does come with the ugly London Olympics logo but at least it’s on the back side of the watch.

Moments In Time Watch Sculptures by Dominic Wilcox

moments in time london riot watch figurineOver the past year I have called quite a few watches “works of art” but the watches created by Dominic Wilcox truly are works of art more than they are wristwatches.  Dominic has created seven unique timepieces using vintage mechanical wristwatches and pocket watches that feature moments in time sculptures featuring hand-crafted miniature figurines.  The seven timepieces are exhibited at the Dezeen Space Gallery until October 16, 2011, called “Moments In Time”.

Each watch comes with a different scene from everyday life including a scene from the recent London riots with a looter stealing an LCD television.  The looter figurine is placed on the second hand which gives him the appearance of running away (at the speed of light time) as a policeman looks on, who’s placed on the minute hand.  Other “moments in time” scenes feature kids playing, a man trying to shake hands, a man sweeping, a flying pig getting away from butchers, a man sitting on a bench, and the last one I don’t really get.

Seiko Astron – World’s First GPS Solar Watch

Seiko manufactures some of the nicest and most affordable watches to come out of Japan. The Japanese have been at the top of their game in practically every industry imaginable and the watches are no exception. The new Seiko Astron is the world’s first GPS solar watch so you never have to worry about manually adjusting the time or hunting for time zone servers.

The Seiko Astron features a very low-energy-consumption GPS receiver which was developed in house. With this development, the watch can receive GPS signals and identify time zone, time and date data using the global network of GPS satellites. The watch can receive the time signal automatically and, on demand, connect to four or more satellites, which pinpoints the position and identifies the time zone and exact time. The watch can recognize all 39 times on the earth.
