Retro Television – Game of Thrones and Beyond… 1995 Style

I don’t watch a whole lot of television, but I am quite passionate about the few shows that I do watch. After all, I only watch the best of the best, so might as well go the distance with them.

There’s a problem with this whole, thing. You see, I’ve been watching these shows with the knowledge that I’m seeing them first. No, not before anyone else exactly… but still immediately, the moment that they’re available. Unfortunately, as I learned a mere two hours ago, the whole lot of them, from Game of Thrones to Breaking Bad, were all actually launched in the early 90s on minor family television networks in the United States. Crazy, right? Read on…

Pop Culture by Madeon: Killer Live 39 Track Mashup

I heard Pop Culture by Madeon a few months ago and it immediately got in my head with its crunchy synth and infectious dance styling, so when it came up in my playlist today, I decided to check for a video. When I found the official release on YouTube, I was blown away by what I was seeing. I knew it was obviously a mashup, and could pick out bits and pieces of songs I like, but I didn’t realize just how deep this rabbit hole went. The seamless editing blends 39 separate tracks from artists ranging widely from ELO and The Who to Chromeo and Nero.  Watching Madeon’s fingers dancing across his Launchpad and trying to figure out how he’s keeping track of the samples and levels while playing a freestyle organ solo is nothing short of amazing. His mastery of digital dj equipment seemingly knows no bounds. And then, I found out he’s only 17 years old – queue puff of smoke leaking out my ears. A few months ago I heard the name Justin Bieber for the very first time, I wasn’t sure who it was and didn’t really care that much.  The next few weeks, it seemed every damn place I went to, I had to hear, see or read his name.  Pretty much every website, TV channel and magazine was covered with this “God’s gift to mankind”.

So like any modern-age internet geek, I paid a visit to our good friend “The Google” and typed in his name to see what this mythical creature Justin Bieber looks like.  I was shocked to find that Justin Bieber was a 10 year old girl!!! (see exhibit B).  I learned at an early age that Justin is a boy’s name, so I continued my research and finally was convinced that he was indeed a boy and a 16 year old one at that.  Needless to say, after my extensive research (a whole 10 minutes of it); I came to realize that this “boy” didn’t have any talent and has a very punch-able face.

The King of Pop meets the King of Cotton Candy. I’ve noticed that people who hold unconventional jobs (street artists) seem a whole lot happier than those nine to five folks. Sure, in a lot of case they probably make less money but being happy is also pretty important. And the guy you are about to see seems pretty happy with what he does and is making some coin as well.

I’m not exactly sure where this video takes place but according to the comments over at YouTube, it’s apparently in Russia. He’s busting some sweet ass moves to a Michael Jackson song and he’s got the attention of the whole crowd. I’m actually surprised he didn’t take out somebody’s eye out with those crazy arm motions and the fact that the kids rush in every time there is cotton candy floating in the air.

I love the crap out of carefully planned and created, utter wastes of space and time- especially when they zip around and explode themselves! Domino set-ups, strange musical instruments, stacks of interesting materials- watch any Rube Goldberg machine video and you’ll see exactly what I mean.
