It’s not often, but on occasion I’ve found myself writing long essay-like messages on my touchscreen phone. A phone call would have been a lot easier to get to the point but sometimes you just don’t feel like talking on the phone or maybe the messages are going overseas where the time is inconvenient for a phone chat. Either way, I’ve found my hands cramping up because of my freakishly long texts. This is where the Virtual Keyboard comes to the rescue. There are lots of these laser keyboards out there but this is one of the latest ones to hit the market and it’s supposed to type more accurately.
Sounds great and all but keep in mind that this device works on flat surfaces only. So if you’re laying in bed or on the sofa, the portable QWERTY units that you find annoying will actually be more useful than this device which projects the keyboard onto a flat surface.
The Virtual Keyboard features a full keyboard layout, which is projected onto any flat surface using “advanced laser optics”. The device can be recharged via USB and each charge will last you approximately two hours of use on a four-hour charge. You also don’t have to worry about cables across the table or your lap since it uses Bluetooth for connecting. According to the company, the Virtual Keyboard will work with any smartphone, tablet, and you can even use it with a laptop if your heart desires. Watch the video below for a demonstration.
If you noticed in the video, the person using the Virtual Keyboard type like you normally would on a normal keyboard. His style actually reminded me of the way my father types using the “hunt and peck” technique. I’m not sure if the device could keep up with someone typing 50wpm and registering all the keystrokes accurately.
The Virtual Keyboard will set you back $99.99. A bit on the pricey side in my opinion but if typing on your smartphone device is annoying, it might be worth it for you.
