Snakebite – Hennessey Venom GT Exclusive Road Test by R&T

For their February 2011 issue,  Road & Track Magazine got their hands on the new Hennessey Venom GT. This 1200 horsepower fire spitting snake will leave you begging for another bite from its fangs. The exclusive R&T video along with video of the beast on the dyno are after the jump.

Now this post is a bit bitter sweet for me. I love writing about cars and the Venom GT looks amazing. But, I’m a little apprehensive of glorifying  Hennessey Performance Engineering and their accomplishments. But for those who don’t know the real story behind John Hennessey and Hennessey Performance, you don’t have to look very far. But enough about the politics…and the questionable business ethics, let’s just focus on the car.

At the heart of the Venom GT is a modified LS9 that comes out of the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 producing 725 bhp. The twin-turbocharged variants will create 1000 bhp and 1200 bhp blowing any competition especially with the incredable low curb weight. The sleek design honestly isn’t that innovative and simply looks like they were “inspiried” by the Lotus Exige GT. Hennessey “claims” that it can do 272 mph beating the Veyron for top speed. Sure, sure Hennessey.
