Does Size Matter? Estes 4606 Proto X Nano Quadcopter

The words “quadrocopter” or “quadcopter” really give the creeps; why you may ask?  I’m not against quadrocopters, I actually think they’re pretty cool and really admire the technology behind these machines.  But a friend of mine has recently become obsessed with these types of drones and I have to hear about anything and everything new happening in this field, on a daily basis, for many hours.  He has spent thousands of dollars on these things and wants me to do the same, so yeah, I’m a little jaded.

Now on the other hand, I can live with something like the Estes Proto X Nano Quadcopter.  It’s small, costs only $40, and is meant to be used indoors, so I don’t have to get out of my nice house and drag all that gear into some empty field in the cold weather (based on a true story).

This nano quadrocopter is so small, it can fit in the palm of your hand, and it weighs only 0.4 ounces (11.3 grams) and measures 2.5” from rotor tip to rotor tip.  The tiny quadrocopter also comes with an equally small remote control and can be flown around the house for 5-10 minutes on a single charge.  The quad comes with a rechargeable 100mAh 3.7V LiPo battery and the remote requires two AAA batteries.  [Via]
