Incredible “Cinemagraphs” by Jamie Beck and Kevin Burg

Over the years I’ve seen hundreds of animated GIFs – some good, some bad, but almost all of them centered around naked women with bouncing breasts, or people shooting fountains of liquid cheese out of places that should never shoot liquid cheese. All of these things are greatly entertaining, but none of them are what I would call beautiful.

This series of animated photos, or “cinemagraphs” show the gentler side of life. We get to see women blinking, hair tussling, and people pouring the first glass of what I imagine will be many glasses of wine – that kind of thing. Most of the shots have an eerie, almost ephemeral quality to them, and frankly, I think it’s pretty awesome. Created by fashion photographer Jamie Beck, and visual designer Kevin Burg, these shots show glimpses of subtle movement in otherwise motionless photographs. I think it’s about time I buy a new camera and start experimenting with “cinemagraphs”. Imagine the way I could transform the “disgusting animated GIF” market through this amazing technique. Creating animated GIFs showing all aspects of motion in a disgusting scene is simply too gratuitous, but narrowing it down to a single action or segment of the scene is much more tasteful and classy.
