ID Software’s Rage – Dead City Gameplay Trailer

Rage’s September release date is still half a year away, but ID Software has continued to release new media at a steady clip. This new game-play trailer shows the player fighting to complete a quest in Rage’s Dead City area. The quest has the player searching for a defibrillator in a bombed out hospital while angry and unreasonably strong mutants claw and hack away at him. We also get to see a few of the weapons used against the mutants to great effect, including the shotgun and crossbow, which both look exceedingly fun to shoot. The shotgun has a particularly satisfying sound.

In terms of the visuals, I really enjoy the direction ID Software took, especially in terms of the lighting. Rage is a huge departure from the dark and dreary corridors that filled their previous titles, such as Doom 3. The characters look detailed, the world looks interesting, and the colors are more vibrant than other wasteland themed games, such as Fallout 3, which featured a color palette of grey and brown.

Keep an eye out for more Rage videos in the coming weeks.
