Forget about Grillz! How about Diamond Contact Lenses?

Down in the south (Texas), seeing people with diamonds in their mouths is a normal thing. Southern rap artists have made owning a diamond encrusted grill a “cool” thing and teenagers down there save their money for their first set of grillz – not their first car.

I think Nelly and Paul Wall might want to take a little trip to India and meet up with optometrist, Chandrashekhar Chawan, who is the creator of the diamond contact lenses. Chawan’s company, Shekhar Eye Research, is offering the contact lenses in four different designs: gold, white gold, 18 diamonds on gold and 18 diamonds on white gold.

If you don’t know who Nelly & Paul Wall are, here is a little video to remind you.

The contact lenses weigh 5 grams and sit approximately between 6mm and 9mm away from the cornea as well as holding water to soothe the eye. The company claims that the design of the lens will still allow oxygen to the eye and can even be customized to correct any visual impairment while being comfortable to wear. The company is selling the contact lenses for £9,736 ($13,383) per set and are only limited to 3,996 lenses.

As silly and ridiculous as these diamond contact lenses may be, there actually is a worthwhile cause behind this creation.  The profits from the sale of these diamond contact lenses will be funding treatment for people who are suffering from Stevens Johnson Syndrome. This condition is a skin disease which is usually a result of a drug reaction which affects the tear glands in the eyes leading to loss of vision.

So if you want sparkling eyes and want to put a sparkle in the eyes of those who are suffering from Stevens Johnson Syndrome, order a pair of these diamond contact lenses.

Now, I’m going to pray to the rap gods and request that these rappers don’t create a new diamond embedded contact lenses trend.
