Bioshock Infinite – Booker DeWitt and Elizabeth Meet

As a self described “jaded gamer”, I like to think that I’ve pretty much seen it all by now. Though I still play a lot of games, it’s often simply out of habit than out of real, genuine excitement for the game I’m playing. Given the deluge of sequels, prequels, and re-hashes of other games, I just can’t get as excited as I used to… at least not as often. But every once in a while, something special peeks its head over the horizon.

Bioshock Infinite, Ken Levine’s latest entry in his long standing Bioshock franchise, is slowly but surely working its way to market. Yes it’s a sequel – the very thing I complained about just moments ago – but it’s the type of sequel that you just know deep in your gut… deep in your bones in fact, has been done properly. Ken Levine and his talented team of developers have yet to disappoint me, and after you see the incredible amount of emotion that the crew over at Irrational Games managed to inject just into this short little clip, then I think you’ll feel the same that I do.

When Booker met Elizabeth

I’m a sucker for a good story, and I think that games are finally reaching a point where they can not only have an excellent story, but also characters that are emotive enough to make it believable. It’s obvious that we’re beginning to enter the uncanny valley, and I’m fine with that. Some games will go the ultra realistic route, and others – like Bioshock Infinite, which are more stylized – will make up for it with say, top quality voice acting. When I first watched this I found the facial animations quite impressive, but on subsequent viewings I realized that what really made the difference were the actors. If this is what the whole game is like, hot damn…

Bioshock Infinite Release Date?

I’m not sure why exactly, but I was under the impression that the game was coming out before the end of the year. Given that we’re almost there now, and the game still isn’t here, clearly that isn’t the case. So I looked around and realized that no, unfortunately we won’t be seeing Bioshock Infinite until March 26th, 2013. If we make it past the apocalypse, we’ll have an awesome game waiting for us on the other side.

If you just can’t wait, Bioshock: Infinite is also available for pre-order on Amazon for $59.99. PC, Xbox 360, and Playstation 3 are all up for grabs.
