Ambitious Chinese Project – 3D Fast Bus

Chinese Straddling Bus

This concept seems like it’s right out of a 1980’s novel. This idea was proposed by Shenzhen Hashi Future Parking Equipment Co in an attempt to reduce traffic in major Chinese cities. The pilot project is to start at the end of 2010 in Beijing’s Mentougou District. The project is apparently to reduce traffic by 30%. This concept kind of makes sense if you think about it because buses in downtown areas create traffic due to the “stop and go” to pick up passengers. With this straddling 3D Fast Bus, passenger vehicles can pass under the bus while it stops at its designated stations. My only major concern is the Chinese drivers. They are generally not known for their driving skills and I would feel very uncomfortable as a passenger of the bus knowing who is behind the wheel of that car below me.
