Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG Sedan

Mercedes recently introduced the new S-Class luxury sedan (codenamed W222), and as expected, they’ve now released pictures and info on the balls-to-the-wall S63 AMG version of the car.  What’s unexpected about the new S63 AMG is its styling, the design is very subtle and it would be hard to tell a difference between this car and the regular S-Class, were it not for the AMG badges.

The main difference, that I could see, is the front bumper, which has bigger air intakes, and that’s about it.  Where the S63 AMG is different is under the hood; powered by a 5.5 liter bi-turbo V8 engine cranking out 577 horsepower and 664 pound-feet (900 Nm) of torque – mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission.

The car also sheds 220 pounds compared to the outgoing model, which not only helps in the handling department, but also acceleration.  The 2014 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG does the 0 – 60 mph sprint in a very impressive 3.9 seconds (0 – 100 km/h in 4.0 seconds), when equipped the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system and has an electronically limited top speed of 186 mph.  Initially the US models will only be offered with the 4Matic package, while in Europe there will be a rear-wheel-drive and long wheelbase models, the RWD does the 0 – 100 km/h sprint in 4.4 seconds.

The S63 AMG comes with a stiffer suspension, which looks to provide a lower ride height, optional carbon ceramic brakes, and lightweight wheels.  The interior receives touches of AMG with an AMG steering wheel, aluminum pedals, and sporty bucket seats.

The 2014 S63 AMG will make its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, no word on starting prices and release date.  Via: MB
