Vibram Furoshiki — Minimalist ‘Wrap On’ Footwear

I’m a big fan of minimalist footwear. I’ve been wearing minimalist shoes for almost 5 years now, and I can’t imagine going back to the bulky padded “foot coffins” I used to wear. Along the way, I’ve reviewed a number of minimalist shoes from both VIVOBAREFOOT and Skora, and I’m always on the lookout for something lighter, sleeker, better constructed.

Are these Vibram Furoshiki the next great line of minimalist running shoes? I can’t say for sure, but they certainly look interesting. Inspired by traditional Japanese wrapping cloth, the Vibram Furoshiki line of shoes actually wrap around your whole foot. Pretty wild, eh?

The Vibram Furoshiki is currently available in Aqua, Black, Jeans, Pearls, and Violet. ‘Jeans’ are pictured above, but personally, I think black looks best.

Until recently, the Furoshiki shoes were only available in Japan. However, they’ve recently been launched on the US Vibram website for $110 USD. I’m going to pick up a pair and do a full review in the coming weeks. If nothing else, they’re some of the most unique looking shoes I’ve ever seen, minimalist or otherwise.
