Tesla Model X – The Electric “SUV”

Tesla seems to be doing quite well with their Model S sedan, I see a lot of these electric sedans in big cities and they also seem to show up in smaller towns. Riding on the success of the Model S, Tesla will introduce their latest vehicle, the Model X SUV, on September 29, 2015.

I’m personally a fan of the Model S sedan, I think it looks quite good. The Model X, on the other hand, doesn’t really do it for me in terms of design, it doesn’t really look like an SUV, it looks more like a bloated Model S wagon/hatchback. But I’m sure it will sell well because of its practicality.

The Model X is capable of seating 7 passengers and comes with the “Falcon Wing” doors, first shown on the concept car. The doors come with sensor to prevent them from hitting the ceiling inside a garage. This 7-seater SUV is also very powerful, running on 259 horsepower front and 503 horsepower rear electric motors, with an estimated range of 240 miles (386 kilometers). The Model X reaches the 60 mph mark in a sports car like 3.8 seconds. The 0 – 60 mph time can be reduced to 3.2 seconds with the addition of the optional “Ludicrous Speed Upgrade” package, this package also helps the Model X reach the quarter mile in 11.7 seconds.

The Model X will have a starting price of $132,000 US, which is about $5,000 more than a similarly optioned Model S sedan.
