Small, Fun, and Fuel Efficient: 2022 Kia Forte GT-Line Review

When it comes to budget-friendly small cars, the Kia Forte GT-Line is one of the best options on the market. It’s stylish, well-equipped, and fun to drive. Plus, it comes with a long list of standard features.

The 2022 Kia Forte comes in a total of 7 different flavors. With the base Forte LX MT starting at $18,295 and topping out with Forte GT Limited at a price of $29,995. Below is a list of prices for all of the trims.

TrimPrice
Forte LX MT$18,295
Forte LX Auto$19,895
Forte EX$21,595
Forte EX+$23,195
Forte EX Premium$24,995
Forte GT-Line$26,795
Forte GT Limited$29,995

All of the trims, other than the GT, are powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, producing 147 horsepower at 6,200 rpm and 132 pound-feet of torque at 4,500 rpm. The base Forte LX MT is equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission, while the other trims come with Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT), sending power to the front wheels. This engine is rated at 8.8/6.1 liters/100 kilometers (city/highway) with the manual transmission and 7.9/5.9 L/100 km with the IVT.

The Forte GT Limited is the sportier version of this compact sedan; it’s powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine with direct injection. This little engine produces 201 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 195 pound-feet of torque between 1,500 – 4,500 rpm. Power is sent to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. The more powerful engine doesn’t suffer much from added consumption over the non-turbo engine, it’s rated at 8.7/6.6 L/100 km in city/highway driving.

Both of the engines offer great fuel consumption numbers, which is especially important in these times with ridiculously high gas prices ($2.20/liter as of this week).

Our review 2022 Kia Forte GT-Line was a powered by the less powerful engine, but I found it to be adequate for normal driving. This is a small family vehicle that gets you from point A to B in comfort and using a minimal amount of fuel, so it doesn’t need to break any speed records. If you’re looking for more fun, go for the Forte GT. I found the GT-Line to be fun enough, it isn’t slow and has enough sportiness to make the drive interesting.

I think the Kia Forte GT-Line is a good-looking vehicle, it has an athletic look and is an improvement over the 2021 model year. Our review car’s Gravity Grey looked sharp with the red pin stripes on the front fascia.

2022 Kia Forte GT Line interior scaled

The Interior of the Kia Forte GT-Line is well-designed and looks upscale. The materials are of good quality and are mainly hard plastic. The front seats are comfortable and offer plenty of legroom. I found there to be adequate leg and head room in the back seats, I’m 5’ 8” tall, I think people up to 6’ would find the back seat comfortable, any taller and you’ll need a bigger car.

The Forte GT-Line comes standard with a long list of features, including LED headlights, heated and cooled front seats, heated steering wheel, and a sunroof. The infotainment system is user-friendly and easy to use. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and there’s an available wireless charging pad. Below is a list of all the tech, safety, and convenience feature our review 2022 Kia Forte GT-Line came with, not all of the features are available on each trim, it’s up to you to decide which feature are important for your daily needs and decide on the trim you’d like.
