My Secret to Keeping Current in the Golden Age of Gaming

In my opinion, we’re in the golden age of gaming. The 80’s were great, of course, because they brought us an ever-expanding library of games from Atari, as well as the original Nintendo Entertainment System. That really got the ball rolling, because after that came a never-ending parade of gaming systems, from the Super Nintendo to the Sega console, then the first Playstation and the Xbox.

Today, though, is a gaming wonderland. Graphics and music are mind-blowing, whether you’re playing on a console or a computer. Rich storylines really make gamers feel connected to the characters. The assortment of games today is endless.

One of the best parts of modern day gaming is how the internet has provided instant access to everything. Want to jump into a multi-player game with your friends? No need to wait ’til everyone can get together; just go online. None of your friends are available? No problem – just join into a game with strangers (which is a great way to make new friends…and enemies…as well). From smartphone apps to console downloads, you no longer need to head to the game store to grow your library.

There’s always something new and interesting available, but we’re also seeing a continuance of the classics. Did you hear that Final Fantasy 14 is going to be set for release soon? Maybe you’re not much for sequels and are looking for cutting-edge video games that tackle current social issues. Perhaps you just like to chill out with mindless fun. Whether you’ve been gaming for years, like myself, or are new to the scene, there’s something out there for everyone.

It can be tough to keep track of the constantly-changing technology and array of gaming systems and options, though. Where is the best place to stream and download games? Which ones are worth playing and which ones are a huge waste of time? As much as we’d like to, it’s impossible to give everything a try, so how do you know where to focus to get the best bang for your gamer buck?

This is another area where the internet really helps. Games news from a number of sites are my lifeblood; it keeps me aware of what’s coming soon, which games are worth playing, and which ones are a waste of my time. From insider tips to the story behind new games, it’s an informative and fun resource. I can find out where to score the best deals on the hottest downloads. It’s also a great site to learn about the companies and stories behind my favorite games.
