Pop Danthology 2012 – Mashup of the “Greatest” Hits

Years ago I read the epic Dune series of books by famed author Frank Herbert. From the pages of his books I learned a great many things. I learned how to walk across open stretches of sand to avoid attracting the giant Shai-Hulud, and perhaps more importantly, the Bene Gesserit taught me about the power of music, and the sway it holds over people.

I’ve started to realize that people do in fact enjoy the music they hear on the radio. There’s a good reason it’s called pop, and in a way this music hold sway over a great many people. They continue to listen to it and support (or not support, as is often the case) the “musicians” that create it. But that’s not the point of this little story… no, I’m here to play devils advocate and suggest that from bad can come something wonderful. Many people rag on mashups as being the works of those without imagination, but I couldn’t disagree more. Pieces like the Pop Danthology you’re about to listen to are works of art to my ears, and go a long way towards transforming generic musical swill into something fun to listen to.

Daniel Kim’s Pop Danthology

Now, wasn’t that awesome? I sure think so. Daniel took the best parts of these songs and combined them into a mashup that as a whole far exceeds the quality of the individual pieces. I mean, at least in my snobby opinion. No, he certainly didn’t create the individual songs himself, but he sure has a knack for arranging them.

More Daniel Kim

If you’re interested in listening to more of Daniel’s work, then you’re in luck. He seems to have started his yearly Pop Danthology back in 2010, and you’ll find them by visiting his YouTube page. If you’re interested in downloading a copy of the mashup, you can do that as well by clicking here. It seems that Daniel uploaded a copy for your listening pleasure.

I'm a co-founder and writer here at Unfinished Man. I write, manage the look and feel of the website, and make sure that nothing breaks. I also reply to the vast majority of our emails, so if you're sending one through, I suggest you be nice. Everyone says I'm the least offensive of our writers, so they gave the email jockey task to me. When I'm not improving the site, I write about fashion, video games, politics, and anything related to science and technology.
