Meet The Updated Ford Focus – Available With A 1.0L EcoBoost

Ford was the first US manufacturer to make big changes and didn’t rely on government funds to rescue them. Their changes in design, features, and better quality shows on most of their vehicles. The current Ford Focus is a pretty nice car and the Focus ST is one of our favorites in the Ford lineup. For the 2015 Ford Focus, there are some pretty nice changes coming with the most noticeable being the very Ford Fusion like front fascia.

The Focus five-door hatchback and Focus Estate (Wagon) will make their world debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2014. No photographs of the Ford Focus sedan are available but we can assume it will receive the same front fascia updates and can be considered the younger brother of the Fusion. The sharp lines, slim headlights, and revamped hood mixes quite well with the Aston Martin-like prominent six-point grille. The rear of the vehicle also receives thinner profile tail lamps with the Ford Focus Estate resembling the Ford Escape from the back view.

According to the executive design director, Martin Smith, the vision was to add more emotion to the design of the focus and make it more toned, refined, and athletic. The interior also sees changes with things such as a redesign of the steering wheel, a more simple center console, and improved software with the introduction of the new SYNC 2 in-care connectivity system featuring a high-res eight-inch touch screen with a cleaner interface. The new center storage console is now also adjustable which should be a nice welcome for consumers. The interior should also be a lot quieter thanks to thicker window glass, more dense carpets, and improved engine insulation.

In Europe, the Ford Focus will be available in a number of powertrains starting with the 1.5-liter petrol engine producing either 148 horsepower or a 178 horsepower. The second option will be a 1.5-liter TDCi diesel engine also available in two output levels, 94 horsepower and 118 horsepower. The 148 horsepower 2.0-liter TDCi also sees changes which result in a 14 percent improvement with a manual gearbox and 13 percent with an automatic.  The  Ford also plans on offering a new version of the 1.0-liter EcoBoost motor which will be the first non-hybrid petrol engine family car in Europe to offer a sub-100 g/km CO2 emissions.

Over here in the USA, the three-cylinder 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine will be added to the Ford Focus range and only available in a six-seed manual gearbox. All the Focus trim levels will see improvements that include a revised suspension, stiffer front end, Electric Power Assist Steering, new Electronic Stability Control, and better shock absorbers.

A lot of the Ford models have the Park Assist feature which help drivers parallel park but now they are also rolling out a new hands-free parking technology called the Perpendicular Parking which helps drivers reverse into spaces alongside other cars. Imagine that, having Park Assist and Perpendicular Parking on your vehicle. Combine that with the Pre-Collision system in Europe and an improved version of the Active City Stop collision avoidance system which now operates at 31mph rather than 19mph, and half of the driving is practically done for you.
