1. You want to give your kids a brighter future
One of the most common reasons to move is for the sake of your kids. If you want your kids to succeed in school, then you’ll probably do everything you can to get them into a better school with a better community. As great as this reason is, you need to remember that you have to do this before your kids go to school. This is to ensure that you give them plenty of time to adjust to a new area and so they don’t need to wave goodbye to childhood friends. You’ll get another opportunity to move for the sake of their schooling once they’re old enough to move to college or high-school, but they need to agree to it and you shouldn’t strip them of their friends or put them in a bad position. Remember that although schooling is important, growing up around trustworthy friends and a stable community is just as crucial to their development.
2. You’re financially secure and prepared for it
Perhaps you’ve worked hard to obtain financial security and maybe you’re prepared to move home or even own a second home. However, there are many considerations to keep in mind when you’re planning to buy another home. When calculating your mortgage, it’s important to use all of the financial tools that you have at your disposal. Whether you’re using it to estimate PITI payments or calculate how much money you’ll have after your salary, you need to keep these numbers in mind so that you know how realistic it would be to purchase another home. In most cases, you’ll probably end up selling your current home so that you can afford your new one, but this is perfectly fine assuming you really want to move into a better home and if you and your family are fine with moving away from your friends and family.
3. You want to take on a new job
A new career choice is also another valid reason to move. Moving for your job is a lifestyle decision that is hard to cope with if you’re not prepared. 4. Your house is just too small
If you feel like your house is too small then the only realistic way to grow it would be to purchase a new one. Of course, this should be your last resort and you really need to understand the other implications of moving. You’ll be leaving behind friends and family, you might need to change your commute or find a new job and you’ll have to get used to new surroundings. If it’s just moving down the street into a better home then it’s no problem, but if you’re moving further away to get a larger home for a cheaper price, then you need to ask if it’s worth the effort. You may also want to move into a larger home because you’re expecting to start a family.
5. You really don’t stand your neighbors and/or family
And lastly, you can move if you find your neighbors unbearable. Why subject yourself to years of living next to people you don’t like? Move away! Don’t like family knocking on your door and invading your privacy? Then why not move? There’s nothing that says you can’t move because you don’t like your surroundings, and it’s actually one of the more popular reasons to move in the first place.
