Yes, a car can have beauty and practicality but in the case of the Honda Civic Tourer, maybe not so much. I think this is one of those vehicles that will grow on me once I start to see them often enough cruising around on the roads. Honda decided to unveil the Civic Tourer wagon online, a few weeks ahead of the Frankfurt Auto Show. The Honda Civic Tourer is designed and built in Europe and is the production version of its earlier Civic Wagon Concept which was displayed at the Geneva show back in March of this year.
Like most production vehicles, the Civic Tourer has been dumbed down a bit and is not as fancy as the concept version. The concept featured bigger wheels, LED lights, and a rear diffuser with center mounted exhaust system. The Tourer is based on the European five-door Civic hatch with a 9.25 inches longer rear overhang, hidden rear door handles, and an extended rear quarter window to cover the body work of the D-pillar. Although I’m not a fan of the design, it certainly does standout in the crowd of wagons available right now offering a different balance and appeal.

The Honda Civic Tourer is definitely practical with class leading trunk capacity of 22.03 cubic feet of space when rear seats are in place and an impressive 58.9 cubic feet of space when rear seats are folded down. The Civic Tourer offers better cargo capacity than the VW Jetta SportWagen.
According to Honda, the rear cargo area can accommodate two full-size mountain bikes or three full-size check-in luggage bags with the standard tonneau cover pulled over to conceal the luggage. Another unique ability the Honda Civic Tourer offers is the Magic Seats system that is said to enable a range of seating configurations which allows for various odd shaped items to be transported.
The vehicle also features an all-new Adaptive Damper System (ADS) which enhances the stability and ride comfort under varying loads and driving conditions. The Civic Tourer is expected to hit show room floors early 2014 and will be available in a 1.6-liter i-DTEC turbo diesel producing 118 horsepower and the 1.8-liter i-VTEC gasoline motor which will be available in a manual or automatic transmission.
