A History of Genesis – Hyundai Motors’ Luxury Brand

The Genesis brand is a luxury automotive marque established in 2015 as a spin-off from the South Korean automotive giant Hyundai Motor Company. The Genesis brand is to Hyundai, what Lexus is to Toyota. However, the roots of the Genesis brand can be traced back to the Hyundai Genesis, a luxury sedan launched by Hyundai in 2008.

The Hyundai Genesis received critical acclaim for its design, performance, and value proposition. The success of the Genesis sedan encouraged Hyundai to consider creating a separate luxury brand. In 2015, the decision was made to spin off the Genesis nameplate into a standalone brand focusing exclusively on luxury vehicles.

With the creation of the Genesis brand, Hyundai aimed to compete with other luxury automakers such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, and Lexus. The brand’s mission was to deliver high-quality vehicles with advanced technologies, elegant designs, and exceptional driving experiences.
