The Unfinished Man team has driven around in some pretty fast vehicles in the past such as the the Jaguar XKR, Jaguar F-Type S, and even the mighty Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat with over 700 horsepower! Unfortunately, we have not been able to get our hands on anything in the 1000hp range but it doesn’t mean we can’t drool over them. The Galpin GTR1 is one of those 1000 horsepower cars that we’d love to get our hands on. Galpin Auto Sports (GAS) may have an unfortunate acronym but that exhaust note certainly won’t have you thinking of gas.
When the Galpin GTR1 was first introduced last year, it featured a twin-turbo 5.4-liter V8 producing an incredible 1,024 horsepower and 739 lb-ft of torque for a price tag of over $1 million. This year, they’ve got rid of the twin-turbo and is now using a 5.4-liter V8 with a 4.0-liter Whipple supercharger which delivers 1,058 horsepower and 992 pound-feet of torque on 110-octane fuel. It can complete the 0-60mph dash in only 2.9 seconds while achieving a top speed of 225mph. That’s cool and all but where the heck does one get 110-octane fuel?
The Galpin Ford GTR1 is based on the Ford GT and its design is an interpretation of what the Ford GT would have looked like if production had continued. The GTR1 is five-inches wider than the Ford GT and its hand crafted all aluminum body is constructed by renowned concept car builder Metalcrafters.
The vehicle features 20-inch forged aluminum wheels wrapped in Pirelli P-zero tires, six-piston brakes with carbon rotors, carbon fiber accents, and jeweled headlights and taillights. As for the interior of the car, it features machined aluminum instrument cluster, a Mcintosh sound system, and luxurious hand-crafted leather trimmed seats, dashboard, headliner, and door panels.
The overall look of the vehicle is not that impressive in my opinion but the amount of power it puts down is. Why anyone would want or need over a thousand horsepower is still a mystery but it’s good to know that it’s there if you ever need it.
