I recently found out about this very handy little gadget called the Water Leak Alarm. This thing reminds me of a little water filter and is able to detect even the tiniest of water drops when it gets close to the alarm.

This thing is very easy to use as there is no programming involved or buttons to push. Simply place the alarm in any area that can be potentially flooded such as under sinks, in the basement near main pipes, toilets, water heater, and close to a washing machine.  Even if a small amount of water touches the detector, a loud alarm (100dB) will sound for up to 24 hours. I think our team here at Unfinished Man might have a fetish for umbrellas. We’ve already shown you guys Umbrella Messenger Bag, the Unbreakable Umbrella, and the Senz Storm Umbrella. I guess it won’t hurt to add one more to our list by showing you guys the Lumadot LED Umbrella from ThinkGeek.

As the name would suggest, the umbrella features a bunch of LED lights that can be switched to remain on, blink, or turn off completely. The umbrella also features a built-in flashlight at the base of the handle of the umbrella which is perfect for those dark stormy nights. You might have to be a bit on the geeky side to pick this up but at least you’ll be safe as a pedestrian in the rain. And if you’re lucky, some hot geek chick MIGHT even consider you cool.

Tired of people trying to have a peak at what you’re looking at on your computer monitor?  I currently don’t have that problem but did have it when I used to work in an office and every time someone visited me in my cubicle, while talking to me, they’d always try to read MY emails or whatever was on the screen.  A user at instructables.com has come up with a very nice solution for this problem, although I wouldn’t recommend doing this to your work computer.

Instructables user dimovi took a regular monitor and turned it into a “Privacy Monitor” that displays a white screen to everyone except those wearing special glasses.  So what do you need to turn your monitor into the one pictured above?  Check out the instructions below:

Kickstarter is full of interesting, magical things (and a lot of ridiculously useless crap) and I love trolling around to see who’s  getting funded. It’s a great chance to laugh at the state of humanity or cry over our stupidity, and discover interesting projects that would have otherwise never gotten past the drawing board. So when I found Olly: The Web Connected Smelly Robot, I wasn’t really sure how to classify it. Cutesy, enjoyable technology or totally dumb money sink? I’m going with the former simply because of the name Olly the Smelly Robot and the potential for hilarity.

The Third Rock Outdoor Fire Pit or “World on Fire” fire pit, as I’d like to call it, seems like an appropriate fire pit for the times we live in.  Every time I turn on the news, I see people starting fires, riots, explosions, and overall unrest all over the world.  Although the designer’s idea is to show the earth’s fiery core, I think my name for it makes more sense (in my humble opinion).
