Pop Danthology 2012 – Mashup of the “Greatest” Hits

Years ago I read the epic Dune series of books by famed author Frank Herbert. From the pages of his books I learned a great many things. I learned how to walk across open stretches of sand to avoid attracting the giant Shai-Hulud, and perhaps more importantly, the Bene Gesserit taught me about the power of music, and the sway it holds over people.

I’ve started to realize that people do in fact enjoy the music they hear on the radio. There’s a good reason it’s called pop, and in a way this music hold sway over a great many people. They continue to listen to it and support (or not support, as is often the case) the “musicians” that create it. But that’s not the point of

Swiss “Jetman” Flies Solo Over The Grand Canyon

Yves Jetman Rossy e1305170188302

You may have heard about Yves “Jetman” Rossy (or Fusion Man) of Switzerland who is known for doing things which most people would consider to be insane. He has 15 years of experience flying Mirage Fighter Jets and over 10 years in the Commercial Airlines industry. Some of his favorite hobbies include parachuting, hang gliding, and sky surfing. But he gets the ultimate adrenaline rush when he flies solo with nothing but a home-made wing made of carbon fiber and jet engines attached to his back.

This time, the Jetman is flying over the Grand Canyon at over 190-mph. As can be seen in the video below

The 22 year old southpaw with a killer arm is being called up by Cincinnati for September, with the intent to unleash him during a drive to the playoffs. We’ve heard of a lot of young sports stars getting their shot at the big leagues, but what makes Aroldis so special is his ability to throw a 105 MPH pitch- combine that with his decidedly limited experience in the majors, and it means that he’s got a hell of a gun that no one has ever seen before. It also means that he could buckle under the pressure or his arm could detach and fly into the stands or something, but we prefer to remain optimistic.

The Philips Urban Beehive – I, For One, Welcome Our New Bee Overlords

Bees are awesome, industrious, peace loving little creatures that have had the misfortune of being on the wrong end of most of our wireless technology, and have a bad rap from people who flail around a lot. The Philips product concept for the Urban Beehive is supposed to bee (oh god why I’m so sorry) a way to help our buzzing buddies to establish a foothold in the concrete jungle and allow us to harvest honey and propolis right in our own homes, fostering an understanding between our species. I think the design is absolutely phenomenal, and way freakin’ cooler than an ant farm, but a small part of me wonders just what the hell these people were thinking when they created this.
