The transit of Venus occurred on June 5, 2012; if you’re reading this today, let me assure you, you won’t be alive to see it live again because the next time it happens it will be the year 2117 and 2125. The “Transit of Venus” occurs when the planet Venus travels directly between the sun and earth, leaving a shadow as it moves across space. This Venus transit lasted for 6 hours and 40 minutes and unfortunately I wasn’t able to see it live because it’s always cloudy and raining here and I also forgot all about the event.
For those of you that missed seeing this spectacular event, we have this very cool high definition video from NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) showing a shadow of the planet Venus travel across the surface of the sun.
