Every so often I’ll see a bit of seemingly pretentious photography that I actually like, and Stellar, by Ignacio Torres, definitely fits the bill. In fact, one might say that this collection is… out of this world. In this set of 3d animated gifs, Ignacio combines the wonders of the universe with a bunch of people who are seemingly being blown away by invisible shooters. Honestly, I don’t even know, but the effect is incredibly neat.

Walking around the city here, I see graffiti all the time. I used to view graffiti as the works of talentless youngsters trying to make a mess, and little more. Over the years, though, I’ve seen a few exceptionally interesting pieces, like this house in Lisbon, Portugal. Its made me realize that there’s a big difference between the mere act of spray painting something, and actual street art. Created by street artists Os Gémeos and Blu, this massive collaboration moves past the mere act of tagging, and actually carries a message.

I discovered cinemagraphs a few months ago, and since then I’ve continued to be fascinated by them. If you haven’t heard the term before, you’re not alone. They’re essentially a static image, much like you would take with your cell phone or camera, but with one or more elements in motion. The result is a subtle effect that’s extremely interesting, and often times creepy as well.

If you’ve ever seen billy bobs incredible movie Inception, chances are you also remember the stunning and often times disorienting structures that sprang forth from the minds of the various characters in the film. Seeing this set of impossible buildings by artist and photographer Victor Enrich reminds me of Inception quite a bit. None of these structures are very practical, but they certainly look awesome.

I’m a pretty big comic buff, and though I have a decidedly set style of new artwork that I’m drawn to, classic covers still hold a cherished place in my heart. Sometimes, those old covers are so much more evocative than a flat page can express- like, for example, the picture above. Can’t you imagine the gas wafting around our heroes? Tears leaking from Captain America’s eyes? One of the characters in the background shuffling his feet in embarrassment and trying to look innocent? Fart jokes aside, Kerry Callen’s animated comic covers actually add movement to some old favorites, and the results are truly awesome. When I think of thick, black felt pen markers, the first that comes to my mind is moving. No, I don’t mean in the sense of moving my ass off the couch, but instead moving houses. The black sharpies we use to mark boxes are forever connected in my mind, and that’s why I find it so interesting to see them used for art.
