Braun Series 5 Electric Shaver Review

One of the problems with having scraggly facial hair, aside from looking terrible, is that I need to shave all the time. Why? Because if I don’t, I look like an absolute idiot. It’s a sort of facial hair causal loop of sadness. Think Terminator movies, but much more depressing.

So as you read this review of the Braun Series 5, feel free to gaze upon my pale face. But remember, that sparse facial hair isn’t my fault!

You’ve written so, so many shaving gadget reviews…

I’ve been doing this for a long time now, whatever is is I do for a living, and I’ve written many, many reviews of razors and shaving related gadgets. I’ve tried it all and then some. Wet shaving, electric shaving, pulling the hairs out one by one in my moments of madness (I’m kidding, probably) and more.

So why am I writing another review? Simply put, I still hadn’t found a perfect way to shave, that mix of convenience and shave quality. My adventures in wet shaving were interesting, and I do enjoy the experience, but every day? After spending a few more months wet shaving every morning, my answer is a resounding nope! A good weekend ritual, but not something for every day.

Waking up bleary eyed each morning to drag a sharp piece of metal across my face isn’t always the way I want to start my day.

So, short of lazering the facial hair off my face, that leaves electric razors. I’ve had my fair share over the years, and they’ve been fine… but not great. It turns out I just wasn’t trying the right one.

So here’s the short version of my review: the Braun Series 5get one. It’s an awesome electric razor. Your girlfriend will finally love you for real.

Here are some of the main features:

  • Power Drive: +20% more power for high speed cutting, even on dense beard hair and tough contours. It sounds a bit like a car technology, and that’s how you know it’s good.
  • CrossHair Blade: Have you ever played Counter-Strike? The Optifoil technology is kind of like a teenage CS player blasting the hair off your face with unbelievable precision. In short, this tech makes for a damn close shave.
  • Intelligent Clean & Charge Station: You know what drives me crazy about electric shavers? Trying to rinse out all the little hairs. Not so with the Braun Series 5. The base station blasts the hairs out using an alcohol wash. It works very, very well.

It also goes without saying that the Braun Series 5 is cordless, charges quickly, and looks pretty sleek. Just look at that sexy charging indicator.

Though nothing is quite as good as a straight razor shave from a professional, the Braun Series 5 Electric Shaver is pretty damn close. You can pick one up in store or online for between $189-229 depending on the model. The unit shown in my review was 5099cc, which is the top end model.
