Grand Seiko 44GS Limited Edition Watches

The Seiko brand of watches are quite popular affordable watches, you can find them at almost any big box retail store.  The Japanese watchmaker has been around for a very long time, 100 years to be exact.  Now, most of us are used to seeing affordable Seiko watches, but did you know they also produce some high-end watches that are extremely accurate?  Their high-end watches are called Grand Seiko and are priced from a few thousand dollars to $20k+.

2013 marked the 100th anniversary of Seiko and to celebrate, the watchmaker brought a lot of new watches to the BaselWorld watch show.  Today, we’ll talk about one line of watches, the Grand Seiko 44GS Limited Edition.

The new Grand Seiko 44GS limited edition watches are a tribute to the original 44GS watches, introduced in 1967 and designed by a young university student.  The idea was to not only create a high-end watch with a great movement but to also make that watch great looking and interesting.

The new 2013 Grand Seiko 44GS Limited Edition watches come in four flavors: Stainless Steel (SBGW047) limited to 700 pieces worldwide and priced at €5,700, and three gold pieces – 18k White Gold (SBGW043) priced at €20,000, 18k Yellow Gold (SBGW044) priced at €19,000, and 18k Rose Gold (SBGW046) priced at €19,000; all of the gold watches are limited to 70 pieces each.

All four watches come in 37.99 mm cases that are 11.5 mm thick.  The dials have simple layouts, true to the original 1960’s design, and are covered with AR coated sapphire crystals.  The case backs come with the Grand Seiko emblem, just like the original.  The watches are powered by hand-wound 9S64 caliber mechanical movements with 72 hour power reserve.  The watches come with crocodile leather straps and are water resistant to 30 meters.  Via: Seiko
