I have always liked driving pickup trucks but I have no practical use for them. Not only that but the fuel costs alone are enough to keep me away. The Nissan Frontier was a favorite but when it comes to a full size up pickup truck, I fell in love with the second-generation Toyota Tundra when it was launched in 2007. And it keeps getting better with the release of the 2015 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro which might also be a bit of concern for Ford and its F-150 SVT Raptor.
Quick Comparison: Toyota Tundra TRD Pro vs. Ford F-150 SVT Raptor
Okay, so it’s not quite the F-150 SVT Raptor killer but it’s practical for city use and has the ability to go off-road when needed with ease. The Tundra features an aggressive off-road package which was designed by Toyota Racing Development (TRD) and will be available on showroom floors at the end of September this year joining its siblings, the 4Runner and Tacoma TRD Pro.
Just like the Tacoma TRD Pro and 4Runner TRD Pro, the Tundra will also feature TRD Bilstein shocks with remote reservoirs in the front and rear allowing for more suspension travel and increased oil capacity. The truck also has a unique front grille, TRD-tuned springs up front, black 18-inch TRD alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Off-Road tires, TRD floor mats, and a TRD shift knob.
The Tundra TRD Pro will be available in either a Double Cab or CrewMax and will be come with exclusive equipment which includes a TRD front skid plate, TRD-tuned springs which give it a two-inch lift up front, decreased spring rate to improve ride quality when driving over difficult terrain, and a TRD dual exhaust system which is said to sound like music to the ears.
To differentiate between this and standard Tundras, Toyota has given this special edition some ‘TRD Pro’ quarter panel stamps, different colored interior seats with red stitching, reflector halogen headlamps with black bezels, and TRD Pro instrument panel ornament insert.
The 2015 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro will be available in three different colors: Super White, Attitude Black Metallic, and the Inferno which is seen here. The 381 horsepower comes from a 5.7-liter V8 and is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The pricing for the Double Cab starts at $41,285 while the CrewCab pricing starts at $43,900.
I took one of these out for a test drive the other day, I love the Toyota trucks. I think they look bad ass with all the reliability Toyota is known for.
