10 Things You Need in a Survival Kit

As we all know, the world is a very uncertain place right now. There is currently a pandemic going on which has changed the world as we know it. It is hard to find essentials when we go shopping and everything has been shut down. Since we just do not know what could happen tomorrow and whether or not there will come a time when we need to evacuate, it is important to be ready at all times for every type of situation. One way to do this is by building an emergency kit that is inexpensive but can keep you and your loved ones alive should something bad happen. Everything in the kit is easy to find at a surgical supply store or even at a regular superstore near you.

Be prepared for any emergency situation so you can survive on your own for at least 24-48 hours before you find help.

1.) Water

The first thing you need to put in your survival bag is a gallon of water per person. You don’t know when you will be able to access clean drinking water or water for sanitation. A gallon of water per person should be enough to last for about 48 hours as long as you ration it properly.

2.) Canned Food

Another thing you need to do is grab canned or non-perishable food for your bag. You need to have at least three days worth of food in there that will not perish for at least a few years so you can open it and get nutrition.

3.) Flashlight

If you need to evacuate, you may not be able to go anywhere inside that has electricity for some time. You will need some type of light at night to help get you where you need to go and give you the ability to see your surroundings when the sun goes down.

4.) First Aid Kit

There are all sorts of things that could happen when you are outside on your own trying to survive. You could sprain an ankle, get cut by something, get a rash, need a disinfectant, etc. A first aid kit will have everything inside of it to make sure you can take care of yourself and stay as healthy as possible until you get to a safe place where you can get real medical attention.

5.) Extra Batteries

You need at least six extra batteries in case your flashlight or weather radio dies to make sure you can get back up and running as quickly as possible.

6.) Loud Whistle

You may need to signal and call out for help. Having a whistle can help you let people know where you are in case you are lost so that they can come looking for you and find you if you are lost. If you get hurt and can’t move, it can signal to people that you are injured so that they can find you and take you to safety.

7.) Multi-Tool

A multi-tool has everything you need to help get you through just about any situation. Multi-tools have knives, screwdrivers, files, and pliers in them. It helps get you through any situation as well as helping you to build adequate shelters or make fires, etc.

8.) Rugged Gloves

Gloves are one way to protect your hands and make sure they do not get injured or run into anything like poison ivy. It will keep your hands from getting blistered, cut, etc. These are very important to have. If your hands are injured, you cannot do much else.

9.) Local Map

You might not have access to a phone or tablet. It is important to have a map of your area so you can figure out where you are and successfully get to where you need to go.

10.) Cell Phone and Portable Charger

You more than likely always have your cell phone with you anyway, but you need to make sure you have one to two portable chargers. If you cannot get to an electric outlet, you will need to have a portable charger so you can stay charged anyway. This will keep you connected with your family and will possibly help get you to safety.
