Riding the winds of Cabarete, Dominican Republic

The splendid city of Cabarete in the Dominican Republic is very popular for its fascinating beaches. Many tourists flock here for the powerful winds, which are just perfect for kite surfing and windsurfing. If you just want to lounge around and check out the scenery and scantily clad women, the city is also famous for its night scene and people watching.

If you’re a food lover, however, there are lots of restaurants to choose from that not only accept local cash, but also American dollars and credit cards. But before you visit Cabarete, don’t forget to bring your Visa with you for an incredible and hassle free fun adventure.

Exploring Cabarete

Exploring the whole town is very easy because there are lots of taxis, however, make sure you negotiate a price before you get in or you might get ripped off. You should also use common sense and avoid traveling alone, especially at night. But if you decide to go to one of the resorts, you don’t need to worry too much about being hassled, just grab a drink, fill your belly at the all you can eat buffet, and enjoy the sunshine.

Since this is a third world country, the idea of walking around the town and shopping for cool exotic souvenirs such as the signature Mamajuana – which is a bottle filled with various herbs, red wine, rum and honey – is a fun and cheap activity. This odd concoction is believed to be an excellent booster for male vitality. You can also find more practical uses for it such as easing stomach troubles after care-free binge eating and drinking sessions. You can also find lots of hand crafted souvenirs that you can take home to decorate your own place or give to friends and family.

Once you’re done with your shopping adventures, you can re-energize yourself by grabbing some burritos from Concho Loco near the Callejon entrance; they also offer scrumptious Italian and Dominican cuisine plus get the good vibes of the live music. Later in the day/evening, try your hand at some of the local bars; bar hopping is very popular in the city, and both the locals and tourists frequently visit the El Agave on Entrada Callejon de la Loma for its cheap drinks and food choices.

You can also enjoy other beach-related activities like paddle boarding. Just visit the nearby lagoon or the Bozo beach resort instead; the waters here are calmer and you can easily practice paddle boarding. Once you are comfortable with balancing yourself as the winds propel you, just head to the nicer resorts that offer world class wind surfing. Display your prowess and impress the bikini clad 20 something on the beach admiring your every athletic moves.
