Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain — 20 More Minutes of Gameplay Footage

A few months back I posted a Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain video from E3 2014. It showed about 30 minutes of gameplay, and I thought it was a pretty fun watch. If you haven’t seen it already, do check it out.

For the rest of you that have already seen it, I’ve got another 20 minutes of gameplay footage fresh from Gamescom 2014. It’s from the exact same region shown in the other trailer, but… the player takes a completely different approach this time. That may not sound very exciting, but I promise you that the two videos play out quite differently.

Who’s the Big Boss?

Are you ready for sneaking, shooting, and horse shit? Awesome, then let’s get started. If you’re not already sold on the trailer, then you may be interested to hear that there’s some sweet PVP action at the end showing an invasion of another player’s Mother Base.

You know, I’ve never actually played any of the Metal Gear games. They’ve always been Playstation exclusives, and I’ve never, ever, owned a Playstation. I’m not planning to buy a console either, which is why I was trying to restrain my enthusiasm for The Phantom Pain. Thankfully, that’s no longer necessary.

If you haven’t heard the news, Metal Gear Solid 5 is coming to PC via Steam!

I’m not usually one for such “silly” games, but I’ve noticed that the crazy aspects – like a car sliding around in horse shit – are nicely tempered with more serious elements. Having the ability to jettison people into the air may not be realistic, but it seems to add a ton of interesting gameplay possibilities. I can live with a bit of, shall we say… horse shit, if it means the game is going to be more engaging, with a greater level of agency. Just watching this trailer gave me all sorts of ideas how to mess with the enemy.

Yes, overall I’m pretty damn excited. How about you?

  1. That’s so cool, I can’t wait to jump on this one. Base defense and attack other players bases sounds so much fun. Plus, it will be on steam so even if my computer can’t handle it I can buy it and wait till I can upgrade it.

    • Yes, it will be a lot of fun jumping into other people’s games and ruining their fun until they quit crying and never play the game again and then Kojima is sad.
