Volvo cars are famous for their safety and they’re quite fun to drive as well, which I found out on my review of the 2015 Volvo S60 T5. Volvo wants to show it can also step up the “luxury” in their cars too, with the XC90 Excellence, showcased at the Shanghai Auto Show.
The Volvo XC90 Excellence concept puts a different spin on the luxury interior. Instead of the rear bench seat, passenger are greeted to a pair of luxurious bucket seats that recline. This isn’t something new, what’s cool about the XC90 Excellence is the removal of the front passenger seat and in its place is placed a “Lounge Console”.
The Lounge Console gives the right rear passenger a lot of extra leg room to stretch his/her legs, the console also acts as a foot rest and has a built-in tray that extends back to the passenger to use as a tray for a laptop or food. The Lounge Console also comes with built-in 17” multimedia screen and can store items like shoes and has a small compartment for a pair of watches and a wallet.
The Volvo XC90 Excellence with the Lounge Console is a pretty cool idea, in my opinion. Most luxury car buyers, especially in Asia, like to be chauffeured and taking the front passenger seat away opens up a lot of space and gives the rear passenger clear view of the road ahead.
