Things To Do When You Travel To Berlin, Germany

There are tons of places to visit in Europe, but there’s one city that you certainly can’t miss. Berlin, Germany has a rich history, a fantastic night scene and some beautiful parks and architecture that make it the current hub of all things cool in Europe. If you make it to Berlin, here are the six things you definitely cannot miss.

Berlin Wall/East Side Gallery
This is a given, but seeing the wall in person evokes a lot of emotions and can leave people speechless the first time they see it. It really makes you think about how not that long ago that wall separated freedom and repression. Just a wall. The graffiti art on the wall is remarkable, every section displays so much talent and a lot of the messages it conveys are deep and thought provoking as well as promoting liberal views.

Pergamom Museum
The Pergamom Museum took twenty years to construct in the early 1900’s by architects Alfred Messel and Ludwig Hoffmann. The museum is the most visited in Germany with over a hundred thousand visitors each year. The museum has three sections; antiquity, middle eastern and Islamic art. It is one of the largest museums in the country and a definite place to visit when discovering Berlin.

Brandenburg Gate
This is by far the most recognizable landmark in Berlin, not to mention Germany. It’s an impressive structure and because it was used for many historical events it represents the turbulent history Germany has experienced.

Checkpoint Charlie
Another important historical sight, Checkpoint Charlie was the most well-known crossing point between East and West Berlin. The checkpoint now has a reenactment so it’ll have actors dressed as Allied soldiers to give you the full experience.

Potsdamer Platz
This is where the Sony Center is, which is an incredibly impressive building with countless shops, restaurants and even a movie theater, complete with a fountain in the middle. It’s also close to Tiergarten, a beautiful park in the middle of the city.

Palaces and Parks of Potsdam
Potsdam is a complex of palaces and gardens located in Potsdam. It is gorgeous with sprawling fields, walkways, gardens, lawns, and palaces scattered about. This alone could take a whole day to explore, but it’s added it to this list because while the city of Berlin is history-rich. On a nice day this is a perfect place to come and spend a day with a picnic, some wine and some friends.

There are many more sights, parks and attractions in Berlin that are worth seeing, but these are the highlights and things you can’t miss.
