The Manly Guide: How to Pack for a Getaway

As a man of the world, you’ve got a keen sense for adventure, a love for travel but you’re absolutely useless at packing. Whether you’re packing for your annual package holidays or an important business trip, it’s time to learn this essential life skill.

Make a checklist

This all important planning stage should be carried out a few days before. As you think of items you may need, you can keep adding to the list. It may seem excessive but keeping a checklist is the only way you’re going to remember everything. Be sure to include anything you may need from toiletries to credit cards and don’t forget a phone charger and adapter. Your future self will thank you.

Packing Clothes

For some, this is a daunting task. For others, it’s simply a case of dumping the entire contents of their wardrobe into their suitcase. We suggest a more refined approach. A great tip is to use vacuum packs for your clothes. They’re affordable, great for saving space in your suitcase and keep your clothes protected.

Alternatively, you can adopt the fold and roll method for chinos, jeans, and t-shirts. As the name suggests, start by folding the clothes neatly and then roll tightly. This is a great way to save space and avoid wrinkles.

Make sure you don’t forget any essential items. Shoes, socks and belts often get left behind. However, do not get carried away. At this point, you need to ask yourself whether you’re really going to need six pairs of swimming shorts. Don’t make the mistake of over packing, it may cost you a fortune in excess luggage charges.

Packing Toiletries & Accessories

A good quality, leather wash bag is a great investment and should last a lifetime. If your shampoo happens to leak mid-flight, it will protect the contents of your suitcase. Consult your checklist and make sure you haven’t forgotten any grooming products — hair pomade, shaving foam, deodorant, etc.
Shoes and belts should be packed in the side or at the bottom of the case. Shoes should be put in a plastic bag to stop any polish or dirt getting on your clothes.

One final reminder before closing up that case… sunglasses.

Don’t forget your carry on

Include at least one spare outfit in your carry-on bag. This will provide that extra reassurance, in case you baggage goes missing or gets delayed. You should also carry some toiletries, best kept in plastic, travel sized bottles. Not only will this save space in your carry on, it will also make sure you meet flight regulation for liquids.
