Amsterdam is more than smoking weed and getting stoned. It’s an amazing city that is full of culture and attractions that every man should see if they get the chance. But, for the cultured man, Amsterdam is a must. Being cultured is all about broadening your horizons and visiting different countries to experience their customs first hand.
Now, you probably think you can do that in almost every country, and you can. But, what makes Amsterdam different is the incredible mix of sights and sounds that no city can match. That is the definition of culture.
The Accommodation
Don’t get a cheap hotel or share a room in a hostel; go for rented accommodation. There are lots of palatial properties that homeowners will rent for affordable prices that are perfect for a cultured trip to the Dutch capital.
The Van Gogh Museum
Art is central to creativity and expression, and there is no better example of expression than Van Gogh. The man did cut off his ear! His dedication to expressing the nature and spirituality of man through his art led to a complete change in the way that art was created and viewed. When you look at the work that Van Gogh struggled with over his life, you cannot fail to be impressed. It will totally change the way your mind works.
Rijksmuseum
Another museum, but this time it is different artists that will inspire you. The Rijksmuseum is home to plenty of artwork, but the work of the Dutch masters Vermeer and Rembrandt is the jewel in the crown. These artists put life into their portraits that others cannot match. There might be Da Vinci and the Mona Lisa, but her composition is not on the same level as the majority of Rembrandt’s works. It is well worth a visit just to see how a painter can put life into their paintings.

The Holocaust is a memory that millions of people would love to forget, but there are vital lessons that need to be learned. It is a heartbreaking yet uplifting experience and one of the only ways to try and comprehend how it happened and what those people went through.
Coffee Shops
As I said, Amsterdam isn’t just about coffee shops and smoking weed, but it is part of the culture, so it is well worth trying. You don’t have to get so stoned that you cannot remember anything that happened; you can just have a chilled smoke and relax while watching the world of Amsterdam. If you thought the work of Rembrandt and Van Gogh Get the imagination going, just wait.
The Waterways
Taking in your surroundings is quite hard to do when you are on foot. But, in Amsterdam you can just hire a boat and view the city from the canals that dissect the city. There is no better way to take in Amsterdam than sitting on a boat, drinking wine and eating cheese.
The Red Light District
It isn’t what you are thinking. The red light district is a great place to understand a surreal atmosphere and experience. The beauty of the city is not lost on this place, even with the brothels and girls beckoning people from the windows. The juxtaposition is amazing and hard to replicate.
