Razer’s Blackwidow Makes Other Keyboards Feel Like Toys

About a month ago I was sent a Razer Blackwidow to review and I have never been more satisfied with a keyboard. Aside from the gorgeous aesthetics and sleek feel, the Blackwidow excels in all gaming scenarios. I play a wide variety of games including PUBG, CS:GO, Rocket League, and Starcraft. I can attest that the Blackwidow has not steered me wrong yet. Whether I need lightening fast responses for FPS domination or crisp and fluid mechanical key action to spam out my commands in an RTS, the Razer Blackwidow Ultimate has me covered. As an occasional MMO player as well, I delighted in the programmable keys with on-the-fly macro recording, along with the extra 5 additional macro keys. If you ever listen to music while playing you know how frustrating it can be to minimize every time you need to pause or switch the song. Thankfully, the Blackwidow has dedicated media keys that work flawlessly with any music playback program.

Upon receiving my Blackwidow, the first thing that struck me was the weight. Holding it in my hands I got a real sense of how solid and durable the build is. With my new Razer keyboard I also received the Razer Blackwidow keyboard software. This software has a smooth, user-friendly UI that will allows one to fully personalize the keyboard. Here you can create up to 10 profiles, perfect if you require different settings for another game or if you have multiple users of the same computer. One of the options I can no longer live without is gaming mode. Gaming mode deactivates the windows key, that way I don’t lose due to accidentally minimizing my game.

So far I’ve had no problems with any of the hardware or software. The Razer Blackwidow firmware seems very reliable and the auto-update will check for and take care of any future firmware upgrades. I’ve observed that even for non-gamers, the improved experience this keyboard provides is easily noticeable. My wife who has never played a videogame in her life often uses my computer for work correspondence and has just asked me, “how much is the Razer Blackwidow?”. Looking to buy one for her office at work, she has made remarks on a few occasions about how much she absolutely loves the Razer Blackwidow for typing. While my main desktop is a PC, I do have an iMac and a MacBook so to all those wondering, “will Razer keyboard work on mac?” The answer is yes!

When deciding which Razer keyboard is the best for you, it will essentially come down to personal taste whether you want the Ultimate Razer Blackwidow or Chroma Blackwidow. Functionally the various models of Blackwidow are identical, the main differences will be in the design/colors of the casing, and in the backlighting. Both keyboards feature a complete set of individually lit keys, however, the Ultimate is set to green where the Chroma’s is customizable, and fully RGB. Whichever model of Blackwidow you ultimately decide on, I am confident you will be extremely pleased with your purchase.
