Porsche Mission E Concept

Porsche’s new concept car, the Porsche Mission E Concept is probably the nicest looking car unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. The Mission E would be a direct competitor to the Tesla Model S, were it a production model. In my opinion, this car could potentially bankrupt Tesla based on looks alone.

If the price is in a similar range as the Model S, and Porsche doesn’t mess with the styling too much on the production model, who would want to buy a Model S over this beauty?

The Porsche Mission E Concept is built with technology and knowledge gained from the 919 Hybrid racing program. The car uses a pair of electric motors, giving it AWD, and it’s equipped with four wheel steering and torque vectoring, Porsche has built this car to be a track weapon as well as an electric executive sports sedan. The electric motors are said to produce over 600 horsepower, helping the car reach 62 mph in less than 3.5 seconds and reaching 124 mph in under 12 seconds. According to Porsche, the Mission E should be able to lap the Nurburgring in less than 8 minutes.

The Mission E’s battery pack is located in the floor, between the front and rear wheels for better weight distribution and low center of gravity. Porsche also claims an 80% charge of the batteries in 15 minutes, with a total electric range of 500 kilometers. Porsche is able to achieve this quick charging time using 800-volt technology, which is double the voltage of current vehicles. We’re assuming Porsche will sell/install said charging system in homes for an additional charge.

I’m already in love with the design of the Mission E Concept, it is probably one of the sportiest sedans I’ve ever seen (or seen in a very long time). It looks like a 911, but since it’s longer, the curves are accentuated. The body consists of beautiful curves that are not only aerodynamic but very seductive, and those hips….

The interior is very clean looking, taking the minimalist approach of Tesla, it looks very well thought out and looks just as good as the exterior of the car. Hopefully Porsche does bring this car into production and keeps pricing similar to (or a little higher than) a comparably equipped Model S. I think I’m going to start saving up for this car…
