How We’ll Drive In The Future

Concept Flying Car

Back in the 1960’s, we were promised flying cars by Hollywood (mainly the Jetsons), in the near future.  Well, we’re in the second decade of the 21st century and we have yet to take off.  Sure, there have been some concept flying cars but nothing that looks cool or can be produced, until now.

The concept flying car by students from the Department of Industrial Design at the School of Mechanical Automotive Engineering is designed by Pan Jiazhi, Zhu Wenxi, and Lai Zexin.  These students won first place at the First International Concept Car Design Contest, which is sponsored by FOTON motor company.

Ferrari Powered Moal Coachbuilder Gatto Retro Sports Car

Ferrari Moal Gatto

Everyone loves shiny new sports cars, be it men, women, even kids.  However, when it comes to classic cars, no matter how shiny they are, girls don’t seem to care too much.  I’ve had personal experience with this phenomenon, while driving the Unfinished Man’s 1974 Datsun 260Z.  Every time I drive into a parking lot, it turns into a sausage fest.

So if you’re looking to attract the female kind with a car, stop reading this article now.  This article is on a classic (looking) car, and I know for a fact that this will be a dick magnet.  The car in question is the Gatto, built by Moal Coachbuilders out of Oakland, California.  The Gatto is a one off model built for a rich California investment manager (are there any poor investment managers? I think not).

Blown from the Gods – Pagani Huayra Fully Revealed

PaganiHuayra10

“Ancient legends of the Aymara tell us of Huayra Tata, god of wind, who commands the breezes, winds, and blizzards that invade the mountains, cliffs and hills of the Andean highlands. It is told that Huayra Tata resides deep in the high peaks and valleys, abandoning them only to demonstrate his power to his wife, Pachamama, goddess of mother earth. With his power Huayra Tata was able to lift the waters from lake Titicaca and rain them down on the fertile Pachamama. When Huayra Tata sleeps, the waters and rivers lay quiet. But the calm before the storm is about to be interrupted…”

The successor to the simply stunning Zonda has arrived.  With an exclusively AMG made 700hp 6.0L twin-turbo V12 engine, a top speed of 235mph, and a 0-60 in just 3.2 secs, the Pagani Huayra is automotive breakthrough worthy of a godly praise.

Audi is one of the fastest growing luxury automakers in the world and for good reason; they have been creating some stunning cars recently.  The latest addition to the Audi family is the Q3 crossover which will be officially unveiled at the 2011 Shanghai Motor Show.

Underneath, the Audi Q3 is based on the VW Tiguan but it comes with cool Audi styling and an interior that will put any interior VW has to offer to shame.  The Q3 will come with a lot of options for the tech geeks such as electronic parking assist, MMI Navigation and Infotainment system, and an option to turn the vehicle into a Wi-Fi hotspot.

2012 Transformers Special Edition Camaro

Thanks to General Motors, now you too can look like that geek Shia Labeouf (who, we just found out, banged Megan Fox, or so he says).  The car in questions is of course the yellow Camaro, also known as Bumblebee.

GM is releasing a special edition car to go with the third installment in the Transformers franchise (Transformers: Dark Of The Moon), dubbed the Transformers Special Edition Camaro.  The Bumblebee Camaro can be ordered starting in July and is expected to be delivered in the fall.  Too bad it doesn’t arrive any sooner for the fan boys to drive it to the movie’s premier today (June 29, 2011).  The Bumblebee package will cost you $3,000 on top of the regular price of either the 2LT or 2SS Camaro coupe.

In late summer, Lamborghini gave us peasants a teaser image of what was to come for the Frankfurt Motor Show. The car, of course, is the Lamborghini Gallardo 570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale which is only limited to 150 units and is the most “extreme” Gallardo to be released from Lamborghini to date.

Inspired by the Blancpain Super Trofeo, the new Gallardo will be powered by a V10 putting out 570 horsepower and torque peaking at 398 lbs-ft at 6500 rpm. With the vehicle only weighing in at just under 3,000 lbs, the Gallardo Super Trofeo Stradale will be able to pull off a 0-60 in just 3.4 seconds and capable of hitting 124 mph in a lighting quick 10.4 seconds. The car is expected to reach speeds as high as 198 mph.
