Only Watch 2015: Blancpain Villeret Traditional Chinese Calendar

Here’s another beautiful one-off timepiece for the Only Watch 2015 charity auction, the Blancpain Villeret Traditional Chinese Calendar with a black dial. The watch is a tribute to Chinese culture and has quite a few complications.

The dial is black Grand Feu enamel and comes with applied Roman numeral hour markers, there are three subdials with Chinese characters, which I assume shows the date and month in Chinese. The outer edges of the watch displays the 31 days and there is a small window below the 12 o’clock position displaying the Chinese zodiac animal (this year is the year of the goat).

…the Chinese calendar displays the traditional double hour indication, day, month with leap year, zodiac signs, as well as the five elements and 10 celestial stems.  The combination of the latter with the 12 animals of the zodiac represent the terrestrial branches that follow the sixty-year cycle important to Chinese culture.

The Blancpain Villeret Traditional Chinese Calendar watch comes in a 45 mm rose gold case, which is covered with sapphire crystal. The watch is powered by Blancpain in-house caliber 3638 automatic movement with 168 hours of power reserve. The display caseback gives a view of the movement and the rotor, which is finished in black and comes with the words “Only Watch”. Via: Blancpain
